Dizon faces drunken driving charges
Staff and wire reports
BOULDER, Colo. » Former Waimea High and Colorado football star Jordon Dizon appeared in court this week to face drunken driving charges for his arrest six days before he was drafted in the second round by the Detroit Lions.
Police said Dizon had a blood-alcohol level of 0.097 when he was arrested April 20. The legal limit in Colorado is 0.08.
The Boulder Daily Camera reported Dizon's arrest Monday. He told the newspaper during a phone interview he regrets what happened and said he knows the arrest reflects badly on him.
"I was very polite to the officer. I did everything he asked me to and I acted like a man," Dizon told the newspaper. "It's a bad situation and I'm sorry that it happened."
Dizon has pleaded not guilty to charges of drunken driving, failure to provide insurance and driving the wrong way on a one-way street. He's due in court in Boulder on Aug. 18.
» Former Kahuku star J.T. Mapu was released by the Washington Redskins. The defensive lineman who played college ball at Tennessee had signed with the Redskins as a free agent last month.
