UH players on U.S. volleyball teams
Seven players with Hawaii ties were named to the preliminary rosters for the U.S. Olympic volleyball teams.
Former UH players Clay Stanley, Delano Thomas and Alfee Reft are on the 19-player roster for the U.S. men's national team. UH products Robyn Ah Mow-Santos, Heather Bown and Kim Willoughby and Punahou graduate Lindsey Berg are on the women's roster.
Only players on the preliminary roster are eligible for the final 12-player Olympic Games rosters, which will be announced in mid-July.
HWB returns to Murakami Stadium
Hawaii Winter Baseball returns to Les Murakami Stadium this fall after a year away from the University of Hawaii's ballpark.
HWB will hold 12 games -- including the championship -- at Murakami Stadium this season. The bulk of the schedule, which opens Sept. 27 and runs through Nov. 21, will be held at Hans L'Orange Park in Waipahu.
Games were held on the Maui and the Big Island last season when Murakami Stadium wasn't available due to renovations to its field, but HWB won't play on the neighbor islands this fall.
Each of the league's four teams, the North Shore Honu, West Oahu CaneFires, Waikiki BeachBoys and Honolulu Sharks, will play a 40-game schedule in the developmental league for prospects from Major League organizations and Asia.
