Previous winners of Aloha Piano Competition take top spots again

Winners of the Aloha International Piano Competition were Evan Lin at the high school level and Irwin Jang at the college level.

Both Evan, 13, an eighth-grader at Punahou School, and Irwin, 17, a recent Saint Louis High School graduate, won their age divisions last year, so this year had to compete in the next-highest age level.

Evan studies with Joanna Fan; Erwin with Ellen Masaki.

Other winners in the June 14 competition:

Level A (ages 6 to 8): Lauren Nguyen, first; Preston Ku, second; Clarise Huang, third; Josette Huang and Eugene Son, honorable mention

Level B (ages 9 to 11): Kiana Canicosa-Miles, first; Kai Wong, second; Lawrence Ong, third; Sophia Benz and Andy Lam, honorable mention

Junior Level (ages 12 to 14): Mayu Koshio, first; Annie Kwock, second; Tyler Ramos, third; Scottie Cheng and Harrison Oshiro, honorable mention

High School Level (ages 15 to 18): Alda Lam and Benjamin Watkins, second; Laura Bleakly, third; Rachel Stanton, honorable mention

Young Artist (college age): Heejin Kang, second
