McMackin assisting youth academy
Hawaii coach Greg McMackin and assistants Cal Lee and George Lumpkin are among 24 NCAA coaches helping 200 to 300 high school athletes at the Game Plan Academy at Aloha Stadium, June 30 through July 2.
The academy is designed to help the athletes get information on graduating with a college degree while playing a sport.
Linfield College assistant head coach Doug Hire, a Pearl City graduate, and UNLV offensive line coach Keith Uperesa, a Punahou alum, are among the coaches attending.
Local Execs to speak at Quarterback Club
Professional Golfers Association of America Aloha Section executive director Jim Haugh, Hawaii State Golf Association Manoa Cup director Jay Hinazumi and Hawaii Youth Soccer Association president Scott Keopuhiwa are scheduled to speak tomorrow at the Honolulu Quarterback Club weekly luncheon at the Pagoda Hotel International Ballroom.
Haugh has spent more than 40 years in sports management and administration positions and will offer insight on the opportunities and challenges of the PGA in Hawaii.
Hinazumi will reflect on the recent Manoa Cup and will share stories from the tournament.
Keopuhiwa will explain the overall mission of youth soccer in Hawaii and discuss the results of the soccer regionals currently in progress.
The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program starts at noon.
