SHIPPING TRASH TO MAINLAND: I'm doing my best to put newspapers, cardboard, and plastics into my blue and green bins. I wish I had a new bin for waste paper which makes up most of my gray bin's contents. Yes, we have got to recycle.
I suggest putting more blue bins at shopping centers, fast food outlets and other places where people congregate and socialize.
NEW KAPOLEI MALL: It will be nice to have a new mall in Kapolei. But with the area's track record for bad traffic in Kapolei now, I hope it doesn't just create more gridlock in the area. Now, trying to get in and out of the parking lot to Safeway and Longs Drugs is a nightmare during busier times of the day, and trying to get back to the H-1 Freeway while you wait for the light at Makakilo Drive is terrible. Hopefully the proposed North/South Road to the H-1 will be adequate to keep traffic from getting backed up, but my faith in the engineering department for the roads is gone after experiencing the other roads we must travel each day.
This is a good idea and plan. There is no way Kapolei can ever hope to be the second city without a project like this. In the long term, it should reduce traffic going into the city. The county and state finally realized that developing homes and a few office buildings are not enough to get West Oahu going.
This is the real meat to get things going.
There doesn't appear to be any flagship stores that could sustain this type of shopping mall. Let's hope it doesn't become another Restaurant Row.
FAST AND FURIOUS: (Regarding the story, "2 men face charges in fatal Mililani crash," June 20): What scares me is that I put my family at risk every time we go on the road and I have no way of defending myself from murderers whose weapon of choice is the motor vehicle.
Don't worry, drivers, I have full faith that our system will let you go so that you can kill someone else!
I'm happy that these men, very harmful to society, are in jail. They deserve a stiff fine/sentence for their actions. They're adults and very reckless. Let this be a lesson to all those who race on our roadways. I live in Pearl City and nightly, I do hear sounds of cars racing. They're so fast that by the time anyone calls a policeman, the perpetrator has raced away in the dust/night and cannot be found.
