Bolin, who belonged to the Society of Mary, was 82 when he died June 15 in Cupertino, Calif.
In 2000, Chaminade awarded him a Doctor of Humane Letters degree, Honoris Causa, "for his dedicated service to higher education, his exemplary modeling of Marianist ideals, and his service to the Diocese of Honolulu," a release said.
In his career at Chaminade, which started in 1959, he was a professor of English, vice president for academic affairs, chancellor and rector. Bolin was special assistant to the president of the university before he retired in June 2005.
Bolin also served as the chairman of the Marianist Center of Hawaii and vicar of the Diocese of Honolulu.
Plans for a funeral in California are being arranged.
