Willoughby shines in U.S. loss
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. » Former University of Hawaii standout Kim Willoughby had 10 kills, four aces and a block for the U.S. Olympic volleyball team in a 25-20, 21-25, 23-25, 25-21, 17-15 loss to top-ranked Brazil last night.
UH alum Heather Bown was credited with a team-high five blocks. Punahou graduate Lindsey Berg started at setter and Robyn Ah Mow-Santos also saw action in the first of three exhibition matches in advance of the Olympics. Logan Tom had 23 points to lead the U.S. before 1,200 fans at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
Hawaii boxers head to nationals
Eight boys and two girls were selected to represent Hawaii in the U.S. National Junior Olympic Boxing Championships that start Saturday in Marquette, Mich.
The Hawaii delegation consists of: Joshua McShane (106 pounds), Kurtis Hagi (110), Emmit Bolibol (114), Ansen Jordan-Armitage (119), Chazzette Sau (119), Helena DelaCruz-Lopes (125), Ezra Cabang (132), Keanu Sabado (145), Joshua Nakagawa (154) and Faleauto Manutulila (176).
