UH-Hilo team honored for second year
For the second straight year, the
University of Hawaii-Hilo received the Distinguished Delegation award at the 2008 National Model United Nations competition in New York City. Coached by
Phillip Taylor, professor of political science, the team placed in the top 10 percent of the more than 290 universities from around the world for the third straight year.
Ethann Oki is president of the 21-student team; Amber Lee, head delegate; Matthew Bailey, business manager, and Lisa Leffingwell, secretary. Others include Kari Rolon, Greg Connor, Mia Munekata, Keshia Adolpho, Kensy Apaka, David Chinn, Matthew Czarnota, Laina Dunn, Noah Gomes, Leilani Josselin, Ryan Kanaka'ole, Akea Kiyuna, James Kamaka Pili, Stacy Ruegilin, Cody Showalter, Kreesta Vesga and Asia Vanavichai.
Suzanne Acord, of the College of Education's Curriculum Research and Development Group at the University of Hawaii-Manoa, will take part in an 11-day study tour of Japan. The Keizai Koho Center and the National Association of Japan-America Societies are sponsoring the fellowship.
