UH jumpers eye NCAA berths

Amber Kaufman and Emily Sheppard compete with the nation's best tomorrow, as the Hawaii high jumpers compete in qualifying at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

Kaufman jumped 6 feet 1/2 inch to win at the WAC Championships last month. It is the third best mark nationally.

Sheppard's best is 5-11 1/2 , also at the conference meet, where she was second. She ranks eighth in the nation.

Heptathlete Annett Wichmann, making her third-straight NCAA outdoors appearance, competes Friday and Saturday. The three-time WAC champion was ninth in 2007 at the nationals and is ranked 17th.
