Portuguese roots in Hawaii are subject of family workshop

The Portuguese emigration and the heritage they brought to Hawaii will be explored Saturday at the Rainbow Heritage Workshop at Camp Kokokahi in Kaneohe.
The Hawaii Council on Portuguese Heritage is sponsoring the workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is asking for advance registration.
The workshop is designed for families with children ranging in age from 7 through 18.
No children may be dropped off, and they must be supervised by adults. Adults may attend only if accompanying a child.
Comedian Frank De Lima will be among the speakers, who will include history, language and culinary experts.
Lectures, displays, videos, art, music and fun activities will tell the story of the Portuguese who voyaged from Portugal and the islands of Madeira, the Azores and Cape Verde.
Each family will take home a binder containing information and any work they created.
Registration is $10 per person and includes lunch and supplies.
