Dole Middle School principal earns honor
Myron Monte, principal of Dole Middle School, received the fifth annual Masayuki Tokioka Excellence in School Leadership Award of $25,000 from
Island Insurance Foundation.
Monte got a $10,000 cash award and $15,000 for a school project of his choice. The top two semifinalists, Principals Meredith Maeda of Castle High School and Caroline Wong of Moanalua Middle School, each won $2,000.
Other nominees each received $1,000, including John Brummel, Mililani High School; Michael Harano, Washington Middle School; Gregg Lee, Stevenson Middle School; Amy Martinson, Highlands Intermediate School; Wilfred Murakami, Kealakehe High School; Annette Nishikawa, Kapolei Middle School; Linda Puleloa, Molokai High School; and Gilmore Youn, Kapaa High School.
Brookfield Homes Hawaii has fulfilled the wish list of several Waikoloa Elementary School teachers as part of its Holomua Education program. Among the gifts were a digital camera, a laser printer/scanner, a book set, tempera paints, jump ropes, a karaoke machine and camera batteries.
Hawaii Theatre Center received $10,000 from the G.N. Wilcox Trust to help fund educational programs for 5,525 students.
