Halekulani wine expert wins national honor
Halekulani wine manager Randy Ching has been named Hawaii's only recipient of the 2008 Passionate Wine Service Award from Trefethen Family Vineyards in Napa Valley.
The winery named 40 top wine professionals to help mark its 40th-anniversary year. Those chosen reflected enthusiasm for wine and knowledge of the subject, along with a passion for communicating that to their customers, the winery said.
Ching was chosen from among more than 100 wine managers and sommeliers nationwide by a panel of wine experts.
Cooking class might be right up Dad's alley

Guzman, chef-owner of the Poke Stop, will guide them through the making of a menu of Steamed Clams with Spicy Sausage, Prime Rib with Tropical Horseradish, and Banana Raisin Bread Pudding.
After the cooking session, the food will be served along with hand-crafted beers paired to each course. Cost is $125. Call 735-7788.

Badge brings discount at Hard Rock Cafe
If you wear a badge, you're due for a 71-cent burger from the Hard Rock Cafe.
The chain is celebrating its Founders' Day Saturday with a "Burger Badge Bash" honoring community servants including police, firefighters and emergency medical technicians.
Hard Rock, founded in 1971, is marking that birthday year by offering those public servants a choice from among six burgers on its Legendary Experience menu. The price of 71 cents a burger is good only for dining in, and ID and badge must be shown.
Hard Rock Cafe Honolulu is at 1837 Kapiolani Blvd. Call 955-7383.
