The statue of King Kamehameha I was draped with long leis by Honolulu firefighters yesterday in celebration of the start of Aloha Week at Aliiolani Hale downtown. The leis were made at Aliiolani Hale by volunteers, and hula and music accompanied the annual ceremony.

It was grooming time yesterday for two white-handed gibbons at the Honolulu Zoo. Gibbons, like gorillas and orangutans, are part of the ape family.
