Gauthier vaults to school record
Hawaii senior Patricia Gauthier set a school record in the pole vault yesterday while competing at the NCAA West Regional Track and Field Championships in Northridge, Calif.
Gauthier vaulted 13 feet, 33/4 inches, placing seventh and giving UH two points on the first of the two-day competition. The top five finishers automatically qualify for the NCAA championships; Gauthier goes into a pool of possible at-large entries.
Two other Rainbow Wahine competed in the pole vault. Samantha Weaver was 17th (12-6) and Jessica Custance tied for 21st (12-0).
UH's Alana Faagai threw the discus 149-1 to place 15th and teammate Brittani Daniels fouled on all her attempts.
Amber Kaufman, expected to contend for the regional championship in the high jump, competes today.
UH at Florida set for 12:30 p.m.
The season-opening football game for Hawaii at Florida on Aug. 30 will start at 12:30 p.m. Eastern (6:30 a.m. Hawaii time).
It was also announced at the SEC meetings this week that the game, at The Swamp in Gainesville, Fla., will be telecast by Raycom Sports.

BYUH dominates All-PacWest team
Brigham Young-Hawaii placed four of six members on the inaugural All-PacWest Women's Tennis All-Conference Team yesterday.
Maggie Deng, Ramona Husaru, Elwen Li and Becky Lu represented the conference champion Seasiders, while Hawaii-Hilo's Eve Castaing and Hawaii Pacific's Nina Mihova rounded out the top team.
BYUH, the 2007 NCAA Division II national champion, fell in the semifinals of the National Championship Tournament on May 16.
The Vulcan tandem of Castaing/Christie Pagatpatan and BYUH pairs of Deng/Li and Husaru/Lu were the first-team doubles selections.
Jenny Chin and Ayako Ikeda (BYUH), Anastasia Ageychik and Ingred Cseh (HPU), and Nicole Campbell and Pagatpatan (UHH) made up the singles second-team.
