Kaiser athletic director resigns
Ricky Shimokawa is leaving his job as Kaiser High athletic director. Today is his last day.
Shimokawa, the Kaiser AD the past six years, is taking a job with the Department of Education's compliance office.
No replacement has been named yet to run the Cougars sports programs.
"I'll miss watching the student-athletes as they improve, not just in their performances on the fields and courts, but also their growth as people," Shimokawa said.
Pope wins Kahanamoku scholarship
Lahainaluna's Jack Pope has been named the recipient of the inaugural Duke Kahanamoku Ambassador of Aloha Scholarship.
Criteria for the $10,000 scholarship awarded by the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation included academic success, excellence in water sports, leadership and community service. Pope won the 200- and 500-meter freestyle at the state swimming championships, carried a 3.4 grade-point average and will continue his swimming career at the University of the Pacific.
Summer baseball camps on horizon
This summer's UH Rainbow Baseball Camps for pitching, catching, hitting and defense are set for July and August for ages 7 to 18.
The dates are July 4-6 and 25-27 and August 2-3.

UH earns marketing award
The University of Hawaii athletic department received the "Best E-Marketing Award" from the American Marketing Association Hawaii Chapter. The department was recognized for its Internet marketing initiatives, including its H-Mail newsletter, Web site and digital online ticketing system. UH also finished second in the "Marketer of the Year" category.
Hawaii schools sweep tennis honors
Brigham Young-Hawaii, Hawaii Pacific and Hawaii-Hilo swept all 12 singles spots and seven doubles positions on the inaugural All-Pacific West Conference women's tennis team.
BYUH, led by coach of the year Dave Porter, placed four players on the singles first team - Elwen Li, Maggie Deng, Ramona Husaru and Becky Lu. UH-Hilo's Eve Castaing and HPU's Nina Mihova also made the first team.
The doubles first team was made of Castaing and Christie Pagatpatan of UH-Hilo, and BYUH's teams of Deng/Li, and Husaru/Lu.
Making up the singles second team were Pagatpatan, Anastasia Ageychik (HPU), Nicole Campbell (UH-Hilo), Jenny Chin (BYUH), Ingred Cseh (HPU) and Ayako Ikeda (BYUH).
The doubles second team was Ageychik/Nina Mihova (HPU), Chin/Ikeda (UH-Hilo), Cseh/Lauren Shin (HPU) and Elena Hudzikova/Tinka Mihova (HPU).
