Students' artwork graces board's calendar
The Honolulu Board of Water Supply's 2009 calendar will include the work of 12 winners and 16 honorable mention honorees from its 30th annual Water Conservation Week Poster Contest. The calendar will be available to the public at the end of the year. All posters are being exhibited at Pearlridge Center-Uptown through Saturday, and at Kahala Mall June 2-8.
In the kindergarten category: First-place winner is Lucky Thepsenavong of Aliiolani Elementary School; second, Luke Fermahin, Waimalu; third, Jasmine Moore, Waimalu;
First through second grade: first place, Amanda Zubowicz, Hickam; second, Zedrick Ara, Kalihi-Kai; third, Diego Yip, Kamiloiki;
Third through fourth grade: first place, Dakota Miller, Na'au; second, Gianna Ramiscal, Mililani Waena; third, Andrew Durand, Mililani Mauka;
Fifth through sixth grade: first place, Austin Montgomery, Pu'ohala; second, Annie Lien, Stevenson Middle School, and third, Shelby Ladra, Na'au.
The Hawaii Ecotourism Association named Lynn Cook, a travel and cultural tourism writer in Honolulu, winner of this year's Travel Writer of the Year award. She is editor of Island Air's Holoholo in-flight magazine.
