Two men were arrested stemming from gunshots being fired in a 24th-floor unit at the new 909 Kapiolani condominium building in Kakaako, police said.
No one was hurt from the gunfire, but one man was taken to the hospital after dislocating his shoulder in a wrestling match that occurred when five people argued over settling a debt, said Lt. Bennett Martin.
At least 30 police officers, some with guns drawn, responded to the incident shortly after 9 a.m. yesterday.
"It was highly volatile," Martin said, adding that police officers respond cautiously and forcefully whenever weapons are involved.
A group of three men and two women had been out at several nightclubs Sunday night and were drinking. They returned to the condominium together and began arguing over a "debt," Martin said, declining to give further details.
One man, 27, who is renting the unit with a woman, had the unregistered .38-caliber gun initially and was "wrestling" with a 26-year-old man, Martin said. It is unclear how many shots were fired at the walls and floor of the unit.
The 27-year-old man dislocated his shoulder. The 26-year-old man, who wound up carrying the gun, was trying to flee the complex when police officers stopped him in the loading area on the first floor.
The 27-year-old man was arrested for keeping a weapon, possession of an unregistered firearm and three outstanding warrants. The other man was arrested for investigation of four counts each of terroristic threatening and kidnapping because he had tried to keep the others in the unit against their will.
