Jewelry sales raise cash for cancer center
Sales of a jewelry collection especially designed by Ben Bridge Jeweler and Mikimoto Pearls raised $10,440.50 for the Cancer Research Center of Hawaii. The donation was made from every sale for three months during a special "Everything Is Possible With Hope" collection. It began in October during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Ben Bridge Jeweler of Ala Moana Center also donated a pearl bracelet from the collection, which was sold in a silent auction.
The Associated Students of the University of Hawaii-Manoa has presented its Spring 2008 partial tuition awards of up to $1,000 to the following 11 students for academic achievement: Stephanie Ko, Ka Yi Liang, Jasmine Enos-Amanonce, Evan Mosier, Terence De Luna, Dana Miller, Mieko Inoue, Shannon Leigh Murphy, Sharene Chow, Hoon Meng Jessilyn Kwa and Nobuhisa Morimoto. Other awards went to Amanda Simmons, Lehua Wood, Thomas Trinh, Meredith Trockman, Jennifer Hirata, Kelly Yeates, Kiyami Yamamoto, Lono'ae'ae Pua'a, Minhui Xiao, Lorna Duldulao, Heather Scott, Maya Ramey, Yadira Guerrero, Matias Hansen and Angelina Moeful.
The Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific Foundation received a $15,000 Persons in Need grant for the second year from the Teresa F. Hughes Trust to assist seniors. Those who are 70 and older, have a physical or mental illness and are financially needy will qualify for help.
