UH places 3 on All-WAC first team in baseball
Hawaii seniors Jon Hee and Brandon Haislet and junior Jared Alexander were named to the All-Western Athletic Conference first team baseball squad yesterday.
Haislet led the conference with a .427 batting average in league games. Hee hit .396 with 31 runs and 15 RBIs.
Alexander opened the WAC season by tossing a shutout against eventual regular-season champion Fresno State. He finished with a 5-1 record and 3.99 ERA before injuring his elbow in a start against Sacramento State earlier this month.
Junior Landon Hernandez and freshman infielder Greg Garcia earned second-team honors. Hernandez hit .301 in the WAC and was one of the top defensive catchers in the league with a .988 fielding percentage. Garcia returned from an ankle injury to hit .370 in WAC play with 17 runs and 15 RBIs.
The Bulldogs swept the individual awards, including Steve Susdorf earning Player of the Year honors and Tanner Scheppers being named Pitcher of the Year.
