Viloria’s opponent replaced
A last-minute contract dispute has resulted in a new opponent for Brian Viloria.
Salvador Montes (12-5, 6 KOs) will replace Marino Montiel as Viloria's foe in a 10-round fight on a Top Rank pay-per-view card Saturday night in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
According to Viloria's manager, Gary Gittelsohn, Montiel requested more money once he found out the former WBC light flyweight champion would be his opponent.
"When he took the position that he was fighting Brian Viloria, he felt he was entitled to more money," Gittelsohn said. "We looked for a new opponent and (the 27-year-old) Montes was signed on Sunday."
Viloria (21-2) left for Mexico Monday to prepare for Saturday's fight that he hopes will be a tune-up for a world title shot later this year.
"It's exactly the kind of tune-up fight we're hoping for," Gittelsohn said.
It will be Viloria's third fight in six months. He is coming off back-to-back impressive eight-round, unanimous-decision victories.
The fight will take place at 112 pounds.
The main event features Jorge Arce (48-4-1) against Devid Lookmahanak (18-1).
