HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS
Mililani and Punahou given top seeds
STORY SUMMARY » |
Mililani is the top seed in the Data House State Softball Championships beginning Wednesday.
But as the Trojans know all too well, it's where you finish more than where you start.
The Trojans were the top seed last year but came up short when they lost to third-seeded Baldwin in the championship game.
Baldwin is seeded third again this year, with Kamehameha in the second spot and Waiakea earning the final bye.
Kauai is the top seed in the Division II tournament.
Punahou is in the top spot in the state boys volleyball tournament beginning Wednesday on Maui.
Hawaii Baptist is the top seed in the Division II tournament, which begins Wednesday on Oahu.

|
The D-I tourney begins on Wednesday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Kamehameha (26-1), which split time with Mililani atop the Star-Bulletin Softball Top 10, was seeded second after winning the Interscholastic League of Honolulu. Baldwin (17-4) the defending state champion, is seeded third and Waiakea is fourth.
Some notable unseeded entries included Campbell, Moanalua and Lahainaluna. Campbell (20-7), which lost to Mililani in the OIA final, will face Castle in an opening-round game. The Sabers are ranked third in the state.
Moanalua (21-8), which features ace Sarah Robinson, will play Castle in the opener.
Lahainaluna (20-8) will play ILH runner-up Maryknoll (20-11) in a duel between ranked teams.
Division I games will be played entirely at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
The Division II tourney has Kauai seeded first and Farrington seeded second. Kohala and Lanai are seeded third and fourth, respectively.
D-II games are set at Patsy Mink Central Oahu Regional Park and Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Seedings for the HHSAA Boys Volleyball State Championships were no surprise, at least at the top. Punahou (15-0) is the top seed and Kamehameha-Hawaii is seeded second. Waianae, which upset Roosevelt for the OIA crown last week, is seeded third and Kamehameha-Maui is fourth.
Matches will be hosted by King Kekaulike and Kamehameha-Maui.
Hawaii Baptist, champion of the ILH, is the top seed in the D-II tourney. Seabury (second), Hilo (third) and Campbell (fourth) round out the seeded teams.
D-II tourney matches will be played at Farrington and Radford.
All seeded teams receive a first-round bye.
