2 chefs invite diners to celebrate 'Elua anniversary
Chefs Donato Loperfido and Philippe Padovani celebrate the first anniversary of their partnership in 'Elua Restaurant & Wine Bar with four days of events next week.
The two chefs were running separate fine-dining restaurants -- Donato's Restaurant in Manoa and Padovani's Restaurant in the Doubletree Alana Hotel on the outskirts of Waikiki -- but both closed in 2006. The next year, though, they were back as a pair, in the old L'Uraku location near Ala Moana Center.
The called their restaurant 'Elua, Hawaiian for "two."
The anniversary celebration will include a private party for top donors of Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children on May 22 at the Sub-Zero-Wolf Showroom. But these events are open to the public:
May 21: Raptor Ridge Winery owners Scott and Annie Shull are bringing their wines from Carlton, Ore., to 'Elua for a four-course wine dinner. They will introduce their 2007 Pinot Gris, 2006 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir and 2006 Reserve Pinot Noir as the wines are poured with the dinner courses. Cost is $75. A tasting of four Raptor Ridge pinot noirs also will be available for $20.
May 23 and 24: A five-course tasting menu offers a sampling of the chefs' signature dishes: Padovani's Fresh Manila Clam Chowder and Crispy Confit of Muscovy Duck Leg, and Loperfido's Risotto con Funghi Misti (risotto with mushrooms) and Costolette di Agnello (Mediterranean-style grilled lamb chops). Cost is $75, $16 more with wine pairings.
Call 521-7465.
