Kalaheo upsets Waipahu in quarterfinals

Aaron Fernandez tripled to drive in Alika Kaanapu in the fifth inning to lead Kalaheo over third-seeded Waipahu, 3-1, at Central Oahu Regional Park yesterday in a quarterfinal of the Wally Yonamine Foundation/ HHSAA Division II state baseball tournament.

Fernandez later came around to score on Lawaika Bator's sacrifice fly to center field to provide the final margin of victory for the Mustangs (12-3).

Kalaheo's Richard Preza-Haines struck out seven and went the distance for the win.

Schyler Arakaki went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead a 15-hit attack for top-seeded Kauai.
