Mazzone helps lift Hurricanes

Kanani Mazzone scored five goals, including three in the deciding second quarter, to lift Kapolei over Mililani 9-6 as the Local Motion/HHSAA Girls Water Polo State Tournament opened at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center yesterday.

The Hurricanes outscored the Trojans 5-2 in the second quarter in advancing to today's quarterfinal against top-seeded Punahou.

Yesterday, Hilo surprised Roosevelt 8-7 to advance to a quarterfinal match with third-seeded Lahainaluna. Also, Kalani's 7-6 win over Kamehameha-Maui earned the Falcons a quarterfinal meeting with No. 2-seeded Kahuku.

Kamehameha meets fourth-seeded Kamehameha-Hawaii in today's last quarterfinal.
