A "ROWDY LAUNCH PARTY"

Record producer/fashion designer Dallas Austin, center, was joined by Kainoa Lee, left, Terri Siedenburg, Bernd Siedenburg and Nathalie Kelley as he hosted the "Rowdy Spring 2008 Line Launch Party" Wednesday evening at Le Lotus Bleu Ala Moana. Guests and store staff enjoyed Rowdytinis and the music of DJ Ruckus as they checked out Austin's new designs in street couture for men. Import fans soon recognized Kelley as Neela in "Tokyo Drift," and before long she and Austin were both autographing tank tops and other garments. "We go through a lot of clothing lines," Terri Siedenburg said, "but we haven't seen anything like this. ... It all ties in with (Austin's) Rowdy lifestyle."

FIESTA AT KIMMIE'S

Head chef Kim "Kimmie" Russell was stuck in the kitchen, but veteran rock deejay and tiki culture expert Fil Slash had a good time anyway Wednesday at the grand opening of Kimmie's Cantina (formerly the Red Lion University) on Coyne Street. Slash was among the patient VIP guests who sampled Russell's burritos and soft tortillas. Cantina waitress Lia Mataafa made sure that he didn't go thirsty.

CHICAGO SUPERB AT THE BLAISDELL

art

Walt Parazaider, left, Lee Loughnane and Jason Scheff worked the front of the stage as Chicago played for almost two hours without intermission April 26 in the Blaisdell Arena. The band played all their major hits and then some, featured the voices of Robert Lamm and Bill Champlin, showcased the tight Chicago horn section and gave drummer Tris Imboden the chance to stretch out with a four-minute solo.

Jason Scheff took care of some personal business after the concert. Scheff's father, Jerry Scheff, played the arena with Elvis Presley in the "Aloha from Hawaii" concert in 1973, and Scheff said that his latest visit here would not be complete without seeing the statue that commemorates that landmark event.

Concert promoter Tom Moffatt, above left, talked backstage with Jeannie Pledger and Glen Larson before the show. Hawaii knows Larson as a founding member of the Four Preps and as the creator/producer of "Alias Smith and Jones," "Battlestar Galactica" and "Knight Rider."
