"Treasures of Life"
By Rachel Ellen Zangrillo
(Vantage Press, $8.95)
Lahaina resident Zangrillo divides her book of poetry into sections on life, love, family, places, self-awareness and dreams. She writes in her introduction that she aims to create "a positive and well-rounded feeling" in her upbeat verse. Perhaps the most introspective piece is "Uncertainty": I'm just a girl/In this world/Of uncertainty,/I dream of what I could be/In reality.
"Sagebrush"
By William Wayne Dicksion
(iUniverse, $16.95)
The prolific Dicksion, a Waikiki resident, sets his novel somewhere out West, where a young man named Michael witnesses the death of his parents in an Indian attack. He struggles to survive alone but quickly proves himself a creditable frontiersman comfortable with Indians, Mexican settlers and life on the trail. "Sagebrush" mixes frontier adventure with a young man's coming of age.
