Mapu gets chance with Redskins
Jonathan "J.T." Mapu, a highly recruited defensive lineman from Kahuku six years ago, is getting an opportunity with the Washington Redskins this weekend.
The Parade All-American, who played college ball at Tennessee, is working out at defensive tackle on a three-day tryout that started yesterday, according to a Redskins.com report.
The team's Web site also had a brief item on sixth-round draft pick Colt Brennan. As expected, the quarterback from Hawaii is watching drills from the sideline because of hip surgery April 7. Coach Jim Zorn said Brennan was "antsy," but Zorn wouldn't let him throw any passes.
C.J. Hawthorne will also get a tryout, with the Atlanta Falcons next week. The former UH wide receiver will try to display his special team skills.
Mapu and Hawthorne bring the total number of rookies with Hawaii ties in NFL camps to 12.
