Schofield command shift due
Maj. Gen. Robert L. Caslen Jr., commandant of cadets at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., will be assigned as commanding general of the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, the Army announced yesterday.
Caslen will replace Brig. Gen. John M. Bednarek, acting commanding general, who will be assigned as commanding general for 1st Army Division East in Fort Meade, Md., the Army said last month.
No change-of-command date has been set.
Caslen held several positions on the faculty at West Point, including football coach and company tactical officer, and as an operations research officer at Picatinny Arsenal, N.J.
He also was chief of staff of the Coalition Joint Task Force Mountain, 10th Mountain Division, in Bagram, Afghanistan.
Before becoming commandant of cadets at West Point, Caslen's most recent assignment included providing strategic, policy and planning guidance in combating weapons of mass destruction and detainees.
Also yesterday, President Bush nominated U.S. Air Force Col. Martin Neubauer, who has been selected for promotion to brigadier general, to serve as director of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance at Pacific Air Forces headquarters at Hickam Air Force Base.
