Waikiki Spam Jam offers much food, music and fun
Saturday's Waikiki Spam Jam has a lofty aim, set amid the partying, massive Spam consumption and humans dressed in Spam suits: to collect 10,000 cans of Spam for the Hawaii Foodbank. So if you're headed to the Kalakaua Avenue festivities, pack your pockets with loose bills for the food booths, but don't forget your Spam can.
The Spam Jam, now in its sixth year, brings restaurants out to the street to serve such specialties as won ton, lau lau, ravioli, tacos and poke -- all made with Spam.
Entertainment is non-stop on two stages, and a Mr. or Ms. Spam -- chosen for his/her enthusiastic embracing of luncheon meat -- is crowned
Also, if you've ever wanted a Spam beach ball, this is the place to get one.
Spam Jam hours are 4 to 10 p.m. Admission is free. Visit www.spamjamhawaii.com. -- Star-Bulletin
