St. Andrew's Priory earns deposit of books
The
Book Bank USA donated nearly 4,000 books, valued at $25,000, to
St. Andrew's Priory in Honolulu. The Book Bank worked in partnership with the
Kosasa Family Foundation to donate books to the upper and lower school libraries.
The Atherton Family Foundation gave $10,000 to the American Lung Association of Hawaii to expand its Open Airways for Schools. It will help parents and guardians in making changes at home to eliminate conditions that trigger asthma symptoms. The restructured program will be tested in elementary schools in the 2008-2009 school year.
Hawaii State Ballet students Spencer Keith, 17, of Manoa, Erica Wong, 16, of Kaimuki and Shelby Chun Fat, 16, of Pauoa participated in the ninth annual Youth America Grand Prix, an international ballet competition in New York City.
Tiffiny Baring, a University of Hawaii-Manoa senior majoring in biology, won first prize for her research poster at the national convention of the American Association of Anatomists. Her poster focused on the study of a brain deformity discovered in a mouse, and her research suggests the existence of a previously unknown gene regulating brain development and tumor formation.
