Kona home opens doors to history
The Kona Historical Society will be hosting Ladies Day at Pu'u Wa'awa'a from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 5, at the historic Pihanakalani (Heavenly Abundance) home on the Big Island, off Highway 190 above Kona.
The historic home tour allows guests to stroll the grounds, garden and home, followed by lunch inside the home.
Historian and Hawaiian cultural specialist Hannah Springer will talk about the home, and former residents Pixie Navas and Consceicao Farias will conduct the tour.
Pu'u Wa'awa'a ranch was established by Eben Low and Robert Hind in 1894. Pihanakalani was built in 1905. Among visitors to the home was Queen Liliuokalani.
The cost is $125 per person, and tour space is limited. Call 323-3222 to reserve.
