Ceremonies Friday at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl commemorated ANZAC Day, the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during World War I. BYU-Hawaii student Tofa Tuita, foreground, and Rahira Makekau, a New Zealand cultural ambassador and cultural performance specialist, performed a haka, a chant and dance acknowledging the fallen and those who continue to defend freedom.
