Hawaii softball team loses on road
Morgan Melloh outpitched Kate Robinson and Fresno State beat Hawaii 4-3 yesterday at Fresno, Calif.
Melloh, a freshman, held Hawaii to three runs on six hits while Robinson took her second loss in the league by surrendering four runs on eight hits.
Fresno State's Andrea Ortega blew the game open with a two-run home run off Robinson in the sixth inning to give the Bulldogs a 4-1 lead. Audrey Andrade homered for Hawaii in the top of the seventh to make it 4-3 but Melloh closed the door.
No. 24 Hawaii (33-15, 7-5 WAC) and Fresno State (43-8, 9-3) play a doubleheader today.
Rainbow Wahine win water polo match
Lisa van Raalte scored three goals and Sara Gralitzer made 11 saves as the Rainbow Wahine beat No. 4 San Diego State 10-9 yesterday at San Diego.
The Rainbow Wahine (20-8) meet top-ranked UCLA today.
Angela Turnbull and Leoni Van Der Molen helped Hawaii's cause with a pair of goals apiece.
Broncos blast Vulcans in baseball
Nate Garcia and Joe Supple combined to throw a shutout and Santa Clara blasted UH-Hilo 10-0 in a baseball game yesterday in Santa Clara, Calif.
The Broncos scored seven runs in the first inning off Hilo starter Brian Shannon before the Vulcans' staff settled down. Jon Karcich led the Broncos with three hits and four runs batted in.
The Broncos improved to 23-16 while the Vulcans dropped to 13-24.
