Parker McLachlin opened with a 2-under 68 to tie for fourth after the opening round of the EDS Byron Nelson Championship, but fellow local boy Dean Wilson stole a little of his thunder with a hole-in-one at the 174-yard par-3 fifth.
It was Wilson's 14th hole after starting on the back nine. He bogeyed and double bogeyed the next two holes en route to a 1-over 71 that left him in a tie for 38th.
McLachlin carded back-to-back birdies on Nos. 7 and 8 to help offset a bogey-five at the par-4 third hole.
The Punahou School and UCLA graduate birdied the par-4 10th to go to 2 under for his round and remained there with eight consecutive pars to close out the back nine.
McLachlin is one of eight golfers tied for fourth, just one shot in back of first-day leaders Mathew Goggin, Ryan Moore and Eric Axley. They all opened with 3-under 67s.
Wilson is No. 129 on the PGA Tour money list. McLachlin is No. 95 on the money list. Those who finish in the top 125 automatically earn their cards for the following season.
