Kamehameha student wins National Merit


Elisa K. Tsukayama
, of Kaneohe, a student at the Kamehameha Schools, is among 1,100 National Merit Scholarship winners in 2008. Her scholarship is being funded by First Hawaiian Bank.

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs gave $24,999 to the American Lung Association of Hawaii for Maopopo Oli Hani, a program to help parents and guardians of native Hawaiian children who suffer from asthma.

Goodwill Industries of Hawaii raised more than $82,000 at its 17th Annual Fundraising Auction in January for its employment service programs.

Jazzlyn Pasion-Saflor of the Kapaa Club House will receive the Macy's Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii Youth of the Year Perpetual Trophy, entitling her to college entrance and scholarship opportunities.

Finalists included Antony Nghi of the Spalding Club House; Raymond Berdon of Waianae; Benjie Baclig and Rowena Dela Cruz of Kauai Waimea; and Linda Leifi and Chezlani Crystal Lee of Hale Pono.

Macy's offered a "Dress for Success" workshop series for the competition.
