Mililani's Rebecca Lee couldn't beat the throw to Leilehua's Ciara Paracuelles last night.

Duhaylonsod shines as No. 1 Mililani wins
With patience worthy of a tortoise, the Mililani Trojans have regained their front-running stride in the heated Oahu Interscholastic Association Red West.
They can thank their resilient ace, Makani Duhaylonsod, who fired a one-hit shutout as the No. 1-ranked Trojans blanked sixth-ranked Leilehua 4-0 last night at Patsy Mink Central Oahu Regional Park.
Duhaylonsod, who wears a turtle tattoo on her back -- a tribute to her family aumakua -- struck out six, walked only one and retired the final 17 Mules who stepped to the plate. Her performance, as well as a near-flawless Trojan defense anchored by shortstop Courtney Senas, was a far cry from Mililani's 8-7 loss to the same Mules three weeks ago.
"I feel good. The kids did well," coach Rose Antonio said. Mililani has two games left, against Kapolei and Aiea, but now has sole possession of first place in the Red West at 9-1. Leilehua (8-3) missed a chance to seize control.
"Makani is very hard to hit when she's on. They played perfect defense. Last time, they had a few errors," Leilehua assistant coach Trenton Kubo said. "(Duhaylonsod) has a great changeup. She threw a good game today."
Duhaylonsod gave up a first-inning single to Ciara Paracuelles, and Kristen Campogan reached base on an infield error, but the Mules never got a baserunner past second.
"My pitching coach (Joe Lee) said my arm was going out around, out of control, so I straightened it out a little," Duhaylonsod said.
She helped her own cause by blasting a two-run homer in the third to cap a three-run inning for the Trojans.
"I was just looking for something to hit," she said of the high fastball down the middle by Leilehua ace Kaylen Ynigues.
The Trojans added an insurance run in the seventh on Chanelle Senas' groundout, which brought home Celina Garces from third base for a 4-0 lead.
Duhaylonsod didn't show a lot of excitement, but couldn't hide her feeling of redemption.
"Last time, we beat ourselves up and everybody was down. This time, everybody was up and we didn't give up," said Duhaylonsod, who showed no signs of an early-season knee injury. "Leilehua is a tough team and they can come back, but our defense is the bomb."
