Win-win spring game for UH’s lone kicker
Even if he misses a decisive field goal in his next game, Dan Kelly will still be on the winning side.
When Hawaii plays its intrasquad game to conclude spring practice April 26, the Hawaii All-WAC kicker will play for both teams.
As the only kicker in camp, Kelly will be a busy man a week from Saturday at Aloha Stadium. He will handle field goals, extra points, and even punting, since the player who usually handles that chore, Tim Grasso, is home on the mainland and not enrolled at UH this semester. Lucky for Kelly, there will be no kickoffs, or he'd do those, too.
As for the rest of the Warriors, they were drafted position-by-position onto two teams by offensive coordinator Ron Lee and defensive coordinator Cal Lee. They will coach against each other for the first time.
"Whenever the Lee brothers are involved, you know it's going to be competitive," said head coach Greg McMackin, who is keeping the Green and White rosters hush-hush for now.
The spring game caps UH's Ohana Festival, a day at the stadium of games and activities for children and fan interaction with the Warriors. Admission to the event and parking is free.
