HPU wins cheer championships

Hawaii Pacific University came away with another impressive haul of championships at the National Cheerleaders Association and National Dance Association championships last weekend at Daytona Beach, Fla.

HPU took its sixth straight championship in the large coed cheer team division, and its fourth consecutive title in the small division. The Sea Warriors dance team won for the third time in a row, and HPU also won the all-girl stunt group championship.

HPU's mascot, "Sharky the Sea Warrior," placed second.

Hawaii-Hilo golfers in 11th place

Hawaii-Hilo is in 11th place going into today's third round of the Buzzini/Stanislaus Invitational in Turlock, Calif., yesterday.

Bishara Ari shot a 77 yesterday and is at 2-over 146 and in a 16th-place tie for the tournament.

Jarin Todd leads the tourney at 6-under 138 after his even-par 72 yesterday, and his Sonoma State squad is in the team lead.
