Boy and charity to benefit from event at Rumours
The musical group Fab 4 will be hosting a fundraiser for two causes, one global and another close to home.
The Well of Hope Foundation, founded by local entertainer Sonia Mendez, is raising funds to build a water well in Africa, while the Friends of Nicholas Soma is helping a 4-year-old from Ewa who was born without ears. Because the family's medical insurance categorizes the boy's numerous surgeries as cosmetic, the family needs assistance to pay for the work.
The event runs from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Rumours Night Club and also features entertainment by Mendez, Gary Moore, the Krush, the Elements, Darren Benitez, Ilona Irvine and Vaihi.
Door prizes, including a trip for two to Las Vegas, will be awarded.
Tickets are available in advance for $15 at islandtix.com or $20 at the door.
Isle's notable women honored in documentary
The lives of 14 "distinctive" women in Hawaiian history are featured through lectures, chants, Hawaiian storytelling, drama and more at the Second Annual Celebration of Women's History from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. April 26 at the Mission Memorial Auditorium (in the red brick building next to Honolulu Hale).
The event also will offer the first public screening of excerpts from Edgy Lee and Don Brown's new documentary, "Exit to Paradise."
Reservations are requested; enrollment continues through Friday. Visit bishopmuseum.org or call 847-3511. Registration forms also are available at any state library.
