UH sweeps water polo tripleheader

The fourth-ranked Hawaii women's water polo team won three consecutive matches yesterday at the Long Beach State Mini Tournament in California.

The victories capped off a seven-match road trip that included tough losses to No. 13 Long Beach State and No. 3 Southern California.

The Wahine defeated Sonoma State in the first match, 14-6. Angela Turnbull and Leonie Van Der Molen scored three goals apiece.

In the second match, Hawaii dominated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 23-4, with Van Der Molen scoring a match-high four goals. The Wahine went on to defeat Pomona in the day's final match, 16-4.

Hawaii will compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship tournament starting April 24.

Hawaii qualifies for national semis

The No. 13 Hawaii coed sailing team finished third at the Pacific Coast Sailing Conference Dinghy Championship yesterday in Long Beach, Calif.

Host Southern California placed first in the two-day event.

The top-four finish assures Hawaii a spot in the Intercollegiate Sailing Association national semifinals, which takes place April 26-27 in Long Beach.

Gaels top Rainbow Wahine in tennis

No. 37 Saint Mary's defeated Hawaii 6-1 in a women's tennis match yesterday at the Wathen Tennis Complex in Fresno, Calif.

Teammates Sophie Kobuch and Chloe Bihag defeated Jessica Hoath and Nienke Strijbis for Hawaii's only doubles win.

Wahine freshman Natasha Zorec's victory over Marah Calvo was Hawaii's lone singles win.

The Wahine (2-16) play Eastern Washington tomorrow.
