Jamar Barber, 4, took a different perspective yesterday on an elephant statue holding a Buddha enshrinement during a celebration for the Buddha's birthday at Ala Moana Beach Park's McCoy Pavilion. The event celebrated Buddhist teachings and practices, and several hundred people took part in the festivities.

Bob Aldinger, looked up Saturday at the bells in the tower of St. Andrew's Cathedral. The eight bells were cast in England in 1812 and were installed in 1990.

During practice each ringer controlled one bell by pulling a rope, so coordination is neccesary to create the correct ringing pattern. Here, the ringers are Marty Aldinger, left, Lynn Albrecht, Helen Besenbruch, Walt Herring, Susan Anderson and Alice Herring.
