How to use Google’s Optimizer

I know, I know ... testing and tracking! Ugh. No doubt this topic can seem a little "techie."

However, testing and cracking is key if you want to make winning raving fans -- and the process of making money easy and fun.

It's an absolute must for you to know exactly what captivates attention and motivates your potential clients to action. This information is critical.

A great free tool to make your testing and tracking easy is Google's Website Optimizer. However, even with this Google-powered tool, testing and tracking to boost your traffic and sales conversions can be an imposing process.

The folks at Google are well aware of this, so they have produced a full video walk-through of their free Website Optimizer service, making it simple to get going.

When I said full video, I wasn't kidding. This video is 63 minutes long. In my opinion, though, it's well worth the time. It's on YouTube and, yes, it's way over the 10-minute video limit for YouTube, but since Google owns YouTube, I guess it's OK for them to break their own rules.

The video primarily addresses what to test on standard sales pages and Marketing PRO pages, if you're using the BLOG i360 system. You'll also get some good ideas on how to use Google's Website Optimizer with your regular blog too.

Here is what's covered in the video:

» A brief introduction to Website Optimizer for new users.

» Best testing practices.

» Top elements to test on any Web page.

» Top mistakes people make when developing new content to test.

If you have been staying away from using Google's Website Optimizer because you think it costs money or is only for big companies -- or maybe you have a big business and think that the Website Optimizer is only for small businesses -- think again.

Google's Website Optimizer is great for all size companies and it doesn't cost a cent to use.

Watch the video and it will be easy for you to use, too.

The Website Optimizer is just one of the many services that Google offers for free. Some people feel that Google is "spying" on them by collecting the data, but, hey, conspiracy theories aside, free, simple tools backed by Google power, who can complain?

What will you test?

We hope you get some interesting ideas from the video. If so, please share them with us. Then we can share them in a future column.

Your ideas will help other readers spur their own new ideas.
