No. 3 Pearl City topples Waianae in OIA baseball

Bryson Namba tripled to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning and came around to score the go-ahead run as No. 3 Pearl City defeated visiting Waianae 4-1 yesterday in an Oahu Interscholastic Association baseball game.

The Chargers tacked on two insurance runs in the fifth. After Terry Ryan was hit by a pitch, Duane Kiyota bunted and advanced to second base on a throwing error. Kurt Poentis' single to left drove in Ryan, and Namba followed with a sacrifice fly to right to bring home Kiyota.

The Chargers' Kahana Neal struck out seven Seariders, scattering five hits and allowing one unearned run to notch the win.

Travis Jones went 2-for-2 with two home runs and four RBIs as the host Trojans defeated the Mules.

Bronson Smithe had a double and drove in four runs to lead Leilehua.

Jacob Arakawa and Brennan Alejo both homered in the bottom of the fifth inning and Na Alii held off the Sabers at Aiea Recreation Center.

Alejo also tagged out Sebastian Locquiao in the bottom of the seventh to prevent the tying run for Campbell.

Zach Hamasaki finished 2-for-4 with a home run in the fifth for Roosevelt.

Josh Serrano singled with the bases loaded to drive in Kaua Olds, and the Knights ralled for three runs in the seventh inning to outlast the Falcons at Kahala Community Park.

Kalani capitalized on three walks, two hit batsmen and six Castle errors to score six runs in the second en route to a 9-8 lead entering the final inning.

Wesley Iongi hit an inside-the-park home run to drive in three runs as the Red Raiders dominated the visiting Governors in five innings.

Steven Van Ness relieved R.J. Van Ness in the fifth inning and struck out two of the three batters he faced to close out the top of the fifth for Kahuku.

After Kaimuki's Duke Okudara reached base safely on an error in the bottom of the seventh, Kalaheo's Aaron Fernandez struck out the side to end the game.
