Lex Brodie's honors GI's help in heroic race
Salem Media of Hawaii Inc. has partnered with Lex Brodie's Tire & Brake Co. to honor Army
Capt. Charles Neumann with the Lex Brodie's Above and Beyond Award. Neumann is commander of Bravo Company and the Warrior Transition Battalion, which supports injured soldiers.
In spite of a severe foot injury, Spc. Phillip Cornejo of the Warrior Transition Battalion entered the recent Great Aloha Run in a wheelchair. But when one of the wheels broke at the beginning of the annual charity race, Neumann carried his gear and lent his shoulder for Cornejo to lean on as they both finished the race.
The University of Hawaii at Manoa and RED, the youth lifestyle division of America Online, won the 2008 Telly Award for Outstanding Achievement in Broadband Programming -- Documentary Category. They produced "Project: Freshman 2007," filmed last fall, documenting the first-year ups and downs of college life for students Elliott Winter, Sarah Riordan and Bri Lagat-Ramos, all from different walks of life.
Deserving Kauai students attending Chaminade University during the 2008-2009 school year could benefit from a $10,000 scholarship grant from the Antone and Eden Vidinha Charitable Trust.
