Matlin takes over Hawaii Bowl
Dave Matlin will be the new executive director of the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl.
Matlin replaces Jim Donovan, who was named athletic director at the University of Hawaii late last month.
Matlin has been operations manager for the bowl game since its inception in 2002.
Gerken, Conroy win golf tourney
David Gerken and Bill Conroy won the Aloha Section PGA Big Island Candies Scotch 4-Ball Championship at The Club at Hokulia on the Big Island.
Gerken and Conroy shot a 9-under-par 135 to pick up the title. The tournament featured 52 island professionals paired into 26 teams playing for $13,500.
Hawaii athletes receive awards
Hawaii's Kate Robinsion received the Western Athletic Conference softball pitcher of the week honor yesterday. Last week, Robinson tossed three complete games and had two shutouts.
» Hawaii men's tennis player Jeff Fitch was named the Western Athletic Conference tennis player of the week yesterday. Last week, Fitch won singles and doubles matches against No. 11 Tulsa.

BYU-Hawaii sweeps West Alabama
The NCAA Division II top-ranked Brigham Young-Hawaii women's tennis team swept West Alabama 9-0 yesterday in Mobile, Ala., to improve to 17-0.
The Seasiders were led by Elwen Li, who breezed through her singles match and teamed with No. 6 Maggie Deng to win one of the three doubles matches. Deng also picked up a singles match win.
» The Brigham Young-Hawaii men's tennis team defeated West Alabama 7-2 yesterday in Mobile, Ala. The Seasiders (7-1) won five of six singles matches and two of three in doubles.
Seasiders golf team finishes 16th
The Brigham Young-Hawaii golf team placed 16th yesterday at the Grand Canyon Thunderbird Invitational at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz. The Seasiders shot a 610 in two rounds and were led by Brandon Van Dyke's 1-under-par 71 in the first round and a 75 in the second round.
