City tech leader honored for systems work

Government Technology magazine named Gordon Bruce, director of the city Department of Information and Technology, as one of the nation's Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers. He was credited for replacing and improving antiquated and neglected systems.

AIG Hawaii donated nearly $8,500 to Meals on Wheels, which delivers 1,000 meals delivered daily to homebound residents and group facilities. Meals on Wheels is using the money to buy special food storage containers.

Retired sumo wrestler Konishiki was honored at the state Capitol earlier this month for his contribution to the ancient Japanese sport and his community service on Oahu's Leeward Coast. Born on Oahu as Salevaa Atisanoe, Konishiki started the Konishiki Kids Foundation, which gives disadvantaged children an opportunity to travel to Japan and be exposed to a different culture.

Go! airlines donated 20 round-trip tickets valued at $2,000 to help neighbor island families travel to Honolulu with children for treatment at Kapiolani Medical Center. Kauai, Maui and Big Island children diagnosed with cancer must travel weekly to Kapiolani Medical Center, sometimes for as long as two years, hospital officials said.
