Kahala is throwing birthday bash for dolphin
Star-Bulletin staff
The Kahala Hotel & Resort is celebrating today, the 17th birthday of Hoku, one of its six resident Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, in true Kahala style.
The celebration from 10 to 10:30 a.m. starts at the Dolphin Lagoon with the introduction of the dolphin, who will entertain guests by showing off his skills and tricks in a five- to 10-minute show.
All hotel patrons are invited to join the celebration by singing "Happy Birthday" and enjoying a piece of Hoku's birthday cake after he blows out his birthday candles.
Hoku is the oldest of the Kahala's six dolphins. His name means "star," and he demonstrates his star quality by "standing" on water, riding a surfboard and performing a shark impression by swimming on his side with his pectoral fin -- which at a glance looks like a shark's dorsal fin -- showing.
