Jell-O speak doesn’t attract attention
Let's face it: In today's world of politically correct speech, most people walk a line that is so bland that they blend into the white walls in front of which they are standing.
Most people are afraid to say anything that they have been indoctrinated to believe is "wrong" or "evil" or -- God forbid -- something that some man, woman, child, cross-dresser, molester, or red-footed blue-nosed field mouse may take as "offensive."
The good news is that this makes it really easy for you to stand out from the crowd. Actually, if you stop being a squishy Jell-O-like person and stick your foot out and stand for something, you'll attract a crowd.
When you speak your mind, unfiltered and unabashed, you will be surprised to see that you have a tribe of raving fans who have quietly been thinking what you have actually had the guts to say.
My good friend Wayne Kelly over at On Air Publicity did a quick radio interview with the Gabby Caddy that is a great example of this "get-real" approach. In three minutes of audio that Wayne shared, I heard how a strong, straight-shooting "personal brand" transformed a New York City cabby into an internationally known "expert" on the streets of New York City.
The Gabby Cabby is New York City cabdriver Peter Franklin who broadcasts news about New York City to more than 300,000,000 listeners in 71 countries around the world. Wayne has been interviewing the Gabby Cabby from New York for almost eight years now. He even took his radio show on the road once and broadcast from Peter's cab.
Wayne says, "Peter always has an opinion and never sits on the fence. This is a key to being a great interview."
Of course, when you decide to be outrageous, to speak your mind, to be different, to be edgy, you'd better be able to back up what you're saying.
» Be passionate about your niche, know your stuff, and use facts to reinforce what may "seem" like outrageous comments.
» Don't rattle off facts or opinion to hammer people over the head with your views.
» Do use facts to make people think and come to a conclusion on their own.
I have a saying that I've used for years: "Most people think in screams, and speak in whispers."
In a world dominated by brainwashed Jell-O-minded people, you don't need to scream to get noticed. Leave that to the marketplace molesters. Even if you speak in whispers, if your words are screaming words, they'll get you noticed.
Think about when the last time was that you spoke without filters and ask yourself what happened.
Speak what your tribe is thinking and you'll not only get attention, you'll be remembered.
