Tanoue and Chai’s swap goodbyes as Architechs cook ‘Rice’
AS ONE party wraps up at Chai's Island Bistro this weekend, another steps up with a new weekly offering. Local photographer
Russell Tanoue hosts the final installment of "Beautiful" on Friday, with $3 drinks before 11 p.m. and no cover for working models with a head shot or comp card. After launching at Indigo in October 2006, "Beautiful" moved to Aloha Tower late last year following a stint at E&O Trading Co.
On Saturday, Architechs Hawaii celebrates eight years of throwing parties with a homecoming of sorts, teaming with Tantriq Entertainment (who reach three years in business this month) and Double-O-Spot Productions to present "Rice Cracker" at the restaurant. They had co-hosted "NJoy" at Chai's in 2005 and 2006.
Interestingly, the flier for "Rice Cracker" hypes it as "Hawaii's Only Indoor and Outdoor Nightlife."

PARTY FOR a purpose next week, when local surfer-skater-snowboarder Chris Kays co-hosts "Big Wednesdays" at the O Lounge.
Kays recently entered the inaugural "Ultimate Boarder" contest, held at California's Squaw Valley and Ventura County Fairgrounds. Billed as the "only competition of its kind," it's like a triathlon for board-riding types.
"I grew up skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding, so that's the main reason for getting into the contest," said Kays. "There's a lot of really known names (competing) ... so to just be (entered) in the contest is really big for me."
While he's found sponsors to pay his entry fee (he plans to stay with John John Florence, another local boy entering the contest, in order to cut down on hotel costs), Kays needs cash for a plane ticket. Pay cover at "Big Wednesdays" and you'll help put the him on a plane next month ...
