Pilot Club donates money for kids' library
The Pilot Club of Honolulu donated $800 for library resources for
Kids Hurt Too, a nonprofit that provides grief counseling and support to children who have lost one or both parents through death, divorce or separation.
The Pilot Club promotes awareness of brain-related disorders and raises funds through an annual charitable open tennis tournament. For more information, visit www.pilotfoundationofhawaii.org.
The
Waianae Civic Center Shelter for the homeless will get an automated external defibrillator (AED) as the result of
Diamond Bakery's "Have a Heart -- Save a Heart" promotion. Diamond Bakery also will give $2,500 to the
American Heart Association's Hawaii Chapter for public education and continued research.
Rebecca Lewis, an 11th-grader at Mililani High School, won second place in the photojournalism category of the McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum's National Student Expression Contest. She is one of 11 high school student finalists who will attend an exhibit in Chicago.
Sam Hughes, a sixth-grader at Hanahauoli School, is a semifinalist in the 2008 Hawaii Geographic Bee. The state winner will receive $100, a globe and a trip to Washington, D.C., to compete in the finals in May.
